Nine months to my next big thing!

JC tagged me last week for the weekly meme of The Next Big Thing! It couldn’t have come at a better time, for I am right in the middle of completing the plotting my next novel. I died a few deaths completing my debut novel
The Destiny of Shaitan. I wrote it over nearly nine years, while moving between three countries, a few jobs, and many homes; And all in a very organic, seat-of-the-pants fashion; however the final one hundred and fifty pages in a finger busting, page burning, marathon from which I am yet recovering. So for the second novel in the series, I am trying to be a lot more ordered. My challenge is to get this second one done in nine months. If one can birth a child in nine months, then why not a book eh? That’s my challenge to myself. I am plotting this second novel right now, and hoping to complete it for next spring. Wow! All in all a very civilized approach, you have to admit. So here’s more about this brand new baby in the works:
1. What is the working title of your book? Return to Seven Islands, #2 Chronicle of The Three
2. Where did the idea come from for the book? I struggled with the ending of The Destiny of Shaitan for a long time, but suddenly it all fell into place so easily. And in doing so, I had the beginning of my next. So by writing the last page of #1 Chronicle of The Three, I had in effect already started the second novel.
3. What genre does your book fall under? Fantasy, leaning towards YA.
4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?I’ve chosen a mix of offbeat Hollywood and Bollywood actors

Madeleine Martin (Californication) as Tiina Yadav, our heroine
Dev Patel as Rai Ramachandran, our man who will save the world
Imaad Shah as Yudi – Chosen one, reluctant hero

Lourdes Leon as Sharmila Singh (the villain-ess)
5.      What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Will she find herself this time around?

6.      Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? I dare to be Indie; do you?
7.      How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Still working on it, but my aim is to release it for Holi (Spring) 2013
8.      What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Percy Jackson meets 1Q84, with a Bollywood twist. Gosh! That does sound pretentious, I think. I hasten to add that this one will be fun, entertaining at the same time will have my trademark magic realist thread running through it!
9.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? In The Destiny of Shaitan, I set up the galaxies in 3000. That was all the hard work done. In Return to Seven Islands, I zoom in on Bombay, Earth, as it is in the future. A tsunami has wiped out the city so that it has gone back to being the original seven islands. There are however a few upcoming bars/ watering holes in this dystopian landspace around which much of the action takes place. Those who grew up in Bombay in the eighties and nieneties (like me) will definitely love to read this and re-visit their memories of their favourite party spots in the city. Tiina and gang let their hair down, and give in to the call of their teenage hormones in this one. A true growing up story this is going to be.
10.   Tag you’re it! Over to you Rasana, Malika, Erika & James
